Chacras

Chacras

Chacras means “old farmhouse” and is also the name of a town in Mendoza’s Central Region. With its thriving restaurants, butcher shops and artisan markets, Chacras de Coria is the area’s cultural hub. Most local winemakers live in Chacras and it is here that they feel most connected to the land and culture. We craft our Chacras Malbec in an authentic style using 100% Malbec. It is the quality and style of wine the local winemakers choose to drink. Bold, spicy and full-flavored. There are no Cote or Bonarda grapes blended into this wine, which is a very common practice in the export market to achieve price points. As a result of being all Malbec, this wine shows sweeter, purer fruit and is less tannin-dry than its blended counterparts.

Our vineyard, "Don Eugenio", was planted in 1946 by an Italian immigrant, Eugenio Gioachini. He built the house on the property where he and his wife raised four daughters and a son. He tended the vineyard until his death at 90 years, by which time he and his vineyard had long since come to be called Don Eugenio by the neighbors. There is no record of a specific wine being made with grapes from this vineyard; rather, the grapes were delivered to a local co-op winery for vinification.

Zaha

Teho Zaha

Paraje Altamira, with its high altitude (4,000 feet) and cool microclimate, has become synonymous with world-class Malbecs. The soils of Paraje Altamira are very diverse, with patches of sandy, rocky and silty soils dispersed throughout the vineyard. At the moment of harvest, each soil profile imparts distinct aromatic and flavor profiles to the Malbec fruit – floral notes in the sandy patches, stony minerality in the rocky areas, and dark fruits in the silty soils. The combination of these profiles lends excellent complexity to the final wine. From co-winemakers and co-owners Alejandro “Colo” Sejanovich and Jeff Mausbach.

Patagonia

Postales

Patagonia, South America's southernmost wine-producing region, it is around twice the size of California. It is a desert with around 180 mm of rain per year, where viticulture is possible only near the rivers that carry meltwater from the Andes providing much-needed irrigation. This ultra-arid climate of warm days and cold nights extends the growing season in the region, slowing the ripening process and letting them develop rich varietal character while retaining acidity. The stony alluvial soils are well drained, and allow root systems to grow deeply into the ground in order to access important minerals and hydration.
